Reality TV show to crown contemporary-art star

The winner of a new reality TV series will be awarded "a gallery show, a cash prize and a sponsored national museum tour," according to a story in The New York Times.

What do you think about this?

Honestly I hope this does not get off the ground. Despite what the producers say, a reality show will not increase awareness or appreciation for fine art. As it stands, galleries and museums only want the latest, trendiest work when it comes to contemporary art. Getting hooked into a reality show will turn that into "What have you done lately... in the last 5 minutes?"
It will only shorten an already short attention span for art collectors or potential buyers, and hurt professional artists who take time to create strong work.
